 Cisco Systems
Cisco Systems is the worldwide leader in networking, providing routers, switches, and other state-of-the-art network infrastructure products.
Routers and switches
Cisco's extensive line of routing hardware runs the gamut, including high-end routing platforms for building IP-optimized backbones, Ethernet LANs, WANs for small businesses and small branch offices, and cost-effective market entry and scaling options to route data, voice, and video over HFC or fixed wireless networks.
Cisco Catalyst switches offer a comprehensive range of Ethernet-based platforms with increasing levels of functionality, from basic connectivity to high-end, multilayer intelligent service switching solutions. Their diverse interfaces, high port densities, and extensible functionality make them suitable for converged network access or backbone applications. As a key component of Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video, and Integrated Data), Catalyst switches provide scalable network infrastructure with intelligent services the foundation for converged Internet business solutions that maximize productivity and competitive advantage.

IPSec VPNs
Virtual private networks (VPNs) are a fast, economical, and easy way for businesses to connect remote sites and users to internal systems, applications, and data. A site-to-site VPN links an enterprise's headquarters, remote sites, suppliers, or customers over a shared network infrastructure using dedicated connections.
Most enterprise VPNs today are based on customer premises equipment (CPE) that supports the IPSec protocol. IPSec provides data privacy through a flexible suite of encryption and tunneling mechanisms that protect packet payloads as they traverse the network. Because this protocol can be deployed across any existing IP network, IPSec is particularly attractive to service providers for delivering VPN services.
IPSec VPNs offer numerous financial and operational benefits and provide the foundation for such enhanced services as IP telephony, videoconferencing, e-commerce, and content hosting.
-
Business benefits. VPNs offer significant cost savings over Frame Relay, ATM, and leased line alternatives, and are a highly effective way to create secure intranets and extranets, support new applications, accomodate growth in remote offices and users, and keep a widely distributed organization focused on core activities.
-
Technology benefits. IP is fast replacing Frame Relay and ATM as the standard for enterprise networks. Supporting this adoption are advances in key technologies such as IPSec for communications security, quality of service (QoS) for distinct handling of different traffic types, and packet processing for overall network performance.
-
User benefits. Enterprises need to securely connect ever-growing numbers of remote sites, mobile users, suppliers, and customers to internal networks and the increased availability of broadband access is only increasing the demand.
-
Security benefits. Businesses must protect their information assets from network security breaches and risks but often lack the internal resources required to proactively monitor, manage, and update their defenses to deter and mitigate network attacks.
